Chris Bond wears many hats. He recently graduated from Ball State University in July, he’san athlete, and for the past four months, a Hillcroft Direct Support Professional (DSP). If you ask the clients he works with, they might say that is the most important job of all! As a DSP, Chris works with individuals with disabilities in their homes. He assists with daily living skills, accompanies them on community outings, and provides support as a staff, a mentor, and a friend.
Chris has several family members who have worked with people with disabilities, and shared with him how important and rewarding it is to help others. They shared how it gives you an opportunity to see growth in the clients as well as your self. This insight influenced Chris to seek out jobs working with individuals with disabilities. After getting the job, Chris was thrilled to find out the clients he would be working with loved sports. As a Ball State basketball player, he was looking forward to sharing his love of the game with the clients. And given that Chris was an record-holding player compared to the likes of local legend Bonzi Wells, the clients were excited to have him around as well! Chris says, “It’s so great because we all love to talk about sports, watch sports, and go to games when we can. It makes me smile when I see them smile and happy about life!”
